Average Hunters, Killing Average Deer – Ignorance is Bliss

Average Hunters, Killing Average Deer Ignorance is Bliss whitetail deer hunting blog

Some folks who lack knowledge and awareness of what Huntography is all about, whether by choice or not, make statements like – “Average Hunters, Killing Average Deer…..it’s called Huntography! LMAO!” - No, that’s not what Huntography is about. Far from it.

No matter what side of the fence you’re on, everyone is entitled to their opinion. That’s a good thing. So here’s mine.

Huntography is not a whack’em and stack’em deer killing film or DVD. Would I love to film one if not all of the amazing and genuine hunters I film kill a monster buck on camera? Of course. Does that opportunity always arrise in the short period of time I have to film these folks? No.

I’m interested in documenting the deer camp traditions, hunting heritage, social and online behavior of America’s whitetail deer hunters. While doing that, I get a chance to hit the woods with them and film their experience on their terms and on local hunting grounds that they have available to them. Some hold big deer and some do not. And that’s alright by me!

The chances that we will even see a deer in the couple days we have together, let alone a monster buck, are very slim. So when we do capture a deer on camera, whether it’s a doe, spike or monster buck, we are blessed. If the hunter has a shot and they feel like they want to take it, they do. But guess what, if you watched Huntography, you’d see that many hunters pass up deer that are in their shooting comfort zone. Why, because they made that decision on their own. And I for one, even though I may jokingly tease them about them passing up deer, totally respect them for their decision. It’s all part of the hunt.

Many hunters who I have filmed however, have killed monster bucks in the past, some actually do it every year. Their trophy walls are well earned. Yet, they still are very humble about all the deer they have killed, even the “Average Deer.” Are they average hunters because when I filmed them they either didn’t kill a deer or shoot what some would consider “Average Deer?” No. They are in my opinion, folks that the majority of us can relate to – everyday hunters whose passion goes way beyond measuring the inches on a bucks head.

Being able to form relationships, life-long relationships at that, with these genuine whitetail deer hunters from around the country, all via social media, is pretty amazing. But then to actually be able to meet them face to face, at their deer camp and film them hunting, well, that is life changing.

So, this season on the #DEERTOUR and beyond, I’ll continue to film amazing folks I meet via social media and elsewhere from around the country, get their stories, share their experiences and capture to me, the true essence of the Whitetail Deer Hunter. Not bad, not bad at all!

@huntography My pleasure Rudy. The 'Hunt' that #huntography represents is far more than a preference for taking top end game. #deertour
