8 weeks from today, I’ll be hitting the road for Season 2 of Huntography, Getting Social with America’s Whitetail Deer Hunters. To say I’m extremely excited would be an understatement.
As a Huntographer who’ll be filming some amazing folks this fall, I have to make sure I’m ready to go, just as if I were hunting myself. This means I have to be in shape. I have to be mentally prepared. All my gear needs to be clean and in working order including my Cabela’s outerwear, underwear, boots, hats, gloves, Lone Wolf tree stand and Canon HDSLR camera equipment.
Aside from that, on the day of each hunt, I have to be scent free as well. I wouldn’t want to be the one who spooks a deer because both my clothes and I were not scent free. I owe it to each hunter to do the best job I can to blend in with my surroundings.
While at Walmart the other day, I picked up some scent free soap I’ve been using for over 15 years, Hunter’s Specialties Scent-A-Way body soap and shampoo. Many of you may just know it as the “green soap”.
I was just about to hop in the shower and realized we were out of shampoo. Immediately, I thought of my green soap and went to get it from my hunting storage box. If you’ve used this product in the past, you know that the soap has a very unique smell. For some people, including myself, certain smells evoke some great memories. While using it, I was brought into deer hunting season mode in the blink of an eye. Not a bad place to be in the hot and humid month of August.
As I lathered up, sorry in advance if that visual just seems weird, I thought, what if used my Scent-A-Way soap everyday from now till the deer season begins? For me, that’s 8 weeks away.
What kind of effect would it have on my body, my skin, my hair? Would it help condition my skin to become even more scent free? Is it even safe to use for that duration? I have no idea, but I’m going to try it.
If any of you have used a scent free hunting soap for an extended period of time, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
Something tells me I’m going to need some more soap
Update:
I will actually be using the soap everyday for almost 12 weeks as I’ll use it everyday during the deertour – August 15 through November 10.
