This is the first whitetail deer I ever shot. It was a button buck. I shot it with my dads Remington Model 4 30-06 using a 220 grain bullet in upstate New York on our family property. I believe I was 18 years old.
As you can see, my deer hunting attire is rather odd. Underneath my classic military fatigues, I wore regular cotton long underwear and jeans for my bottoms. On top, I had a fleece top and a really cheap not too insulated balze orange camo parka. Not much of a parka because I clearly remember freezing my ass off. That camo handkerchief around my neck is a good luck charm. Till this day, I wear it every time I go hunting or filming in the woods. Funny how after all these years, I remember those details.
I look kind of somber in the picture. I think I just wanted to butcher the deer rather than take photos. I’m happy my father persisted as it’s a wonderful memory to have.
