The tradition of deer hunting is alive and well in PA. It’s practically a holiday in Pennsylvania today for the opening day of deer season. The PA Game Commission estimates over 750,000 deer hunters will take to the woods.
Seeing those numbers is really encouraging especially considering how many young hunters are out there today. The deer hunters of tomorrow really need the older generation to pass down the many deer camp traditions that they were so lucky to acquire and build – which I know they are. This type of first hand experience helps our hunting culture continue to grow. Next year I plan on being in PA to experience first hand the magic of their pre-opening day night and opening day traditions.
So good luck to all the deer hunters in PA today and this season – soak it all in and enjoy the ride.

Opie from @Firstlightgear emailed me a pic of this great buck he arrowed back in early October in Michigan.
He had lots of blood after he initially shot it but lost the trail in a deep swampy area. After a couple days of looking, no dice. Till today.
As he and his fellow Huntographer were heading to a new spot for today’s afternoon sit, there he lay.
